AMU’s CCAEE Organises Lecture on Women’s Empowerment

TNN News : The Centre for Continuing and Adult Education and Extension (CCAEE), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised an Extra Mural Lecture on the theme of “Women’s Empowerment”. The lecture was delivered by Professor Azra Musavi, Director, Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies, AMU.
In her address, Prof. Musavi emphasized that education, training, awareness, and economic self-reliance are essential components of women’s empowerment. Without these foundational elements, she noted, efforts to empower women remain ineffective.
She highlighted that economic empowerment enables women to access and control resources, assets, and income, thereby contributing to shifts in societal and political attitudes toward marginalized genders. Prof. Musavi also referred to the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), which advocates for stronger protections against sexual harassment and violence in the workplace.
Following the lecture, certificates were distributed to learners who successfully completed training programmes in Textile Designing and Dress Designing offered by the Centre.
Dr Shamim Akhtar, Director of CCAEE, delivered the vote of thanks and acknowledged the participants and faculty involved in the event.
