Jamia Hamdard Celebrates 79th Independence Day with full Fervour and Zeal under the Leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam

TNN News : JAMIA HAMDARD (A Govt. Aided Deemed to be University) celebrated the 79th Independence Day with full enthusiasm at the Hamdard Convention Centre, New Delhi.

On this occasion, Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, unfurled the National Flag at 9:30 a.m. on the main lawns of the Hamdard Convention Centre, followed by the singing of the national anthem. The ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering including Col. Tahir Mustafa, Registrar; Mr. S. S. Akhtar, Controller of Examinations; Mrs. Hena Parveen, DSW, Deans of Schools, Dean (Academics), Director (CDOE), Chief Proctor, Heads of Departments, Deputy Registrar, Executive Engineer, senior officers, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, faculty, staff and students.

The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor and the First Lady of the university, Mrs. Hena Parveen, received the Guard of Honour from NCC cadets and university security personnel.

As part of the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” and “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, a series of activities were carried out by various university clubs from 13th to 15th August 2025.

This year, Jamia Hamdard also marked five years of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), taking the spirit of freedom and community to the grassroots. In collaboration with Seekh Foundation and Prajna Foundation, Gram Sabha activities including poem recitation, painting, dance, and songs were organized at Batla House Dhobi Ghaat and Kalkaji Village, New Delhi, fostering participation and celebrating community progress.

Patriotic songs were presented by the students of the Music/Cultural Team. The winners of the various competitions received the prizes and certificates from the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and Mrs. Hena Parveen. The Vice Chancellor and Registrar also felicitated Prof. Syeedun Nisa, Provost (Girls), Lt. Mehnaz Bi, Lt. Mohd. Ashif Khan, Mr. Kishwar Khan (AR Gen.), Mr. Mubeen Khan (Security Officer) and other security personnel.

In his keynote address, Prof. Alam paid rich tribute to the freedom fighters of India, highlighting their sacrifices for independence. He congratulated all stakeholders and students of Jamia Hamdard on this special day. He also outlined the university’s plan for infrastructural development and affirmed that all regulatory approvals from bodies such as AICTE, Pharmacy Council of India, Nursing Council of India, Delhi Nursing Council, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Council, NCISM, Bar Council of India, and others, have been obtained for professional courses in the academic session 2025–26.

Prof. Alam further shared that we have established many Skill Centers in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar for running skill-based courses under the Skill Development Centre of Jamia Hamdard, as per the TISS model.

He urged all stakeholders of Jamia Hamdard to make concerted efforts to maintain the top position. Prof. Afshar Alam also thanked the Hon’ble Chancellor Janab Hammad Ahmed and Mr. Sajid Ahmed CEO, HNF-HECA for their continuous support, encouragement and guidance for taking this institution to great heights.

The celebrations concluded with the distribution of sweets among the Jamia Hamdard fraternity, followed by a Tree Plantation Drive – “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”. The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard and his wife Mrs. Hena Parveen; Col. Tahir Mustafa, Registrar; Dr. Javed Ahmed, NSS Coordinator; NSS Volunteers and other officers planted trees near Convention Centre, Jamia Hamdard. The Tree plantation drive was organized by the Horticulture Committee of Jamia Hamdard under Mission “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”.
