VC and Registrar, JMI call on Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region and Education, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, to discuss proposal to construct a hostel for North East Students in Jamia Millia Islamia

TNN News : Prof. Mazhar Asif, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), and Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, JMI, yesterday held a meeting with the Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region and Education, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar ji, to discuss the construction of a 400-bedded hostel for North East students in Jamia Millia Islamia. 

Honorable Minister Dr. Majumdar ji very kindly agreed to support the proposal presented to him by the VC and the Registrar, JMI, and promised that his Ministry will back it.

Prof. Asif said, “We had a very productive meeting with the Hon’ble Minister Dr. Majumdar ji, and we look forward to taking the proposal forward for a full-fledged hostel for North East students. JMI is committed to providing them with an optimal and conducive place to stay and nurture their talents on the campus. The hostel will be a home away from home for students from North East who come all the way to Delhi to build their careers and realize their dreams.” Prof. Asif added, “To pursue the university’s mission to provide education and contribute to the growth and advancement of people from the farthest of regions in the country.” 

Prof. Rizvi said, “Our meeting with Dr. Majumdar ji was significant and opens a new chapter in our efforts to make JMI a hub for students hailing from the North East region who are currently pursuing various courses at Jamia Millia Islamia. We also have a specialized and dedicated Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research at JMI and hope to further boost the dissemination of teaching and research among students from the NE region.” Prof. Rizvi added, “JMI is committed to providing the best of facilities to students from the North East and expects to see more students from the region on campus in the upcoming academic session.”

Both the VC and Registrar, JMI, expressed their deep gratitude to the Hon’ble Minister for extending his full support to the university and for receiving their proposal favorably. Prof. Asif and Prof. Rizvi further said that the proposed hostel for North East students will further contribute to regional, linguistic, and cultural diversity that JMI is renowned for.
