amia Millia Islamia Observes World Physiotherapy Day 2026 with Community Outreach, Sports Activities and Expert Lecture Series

The Centre for Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences (CPRS), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), organised a series of activities to commemorate World Physiotherapy Day 2026, focusing on this year’s theme: “The role of physiotherapy and physical activity in the prevention, management, and rehabilitation of cardiovascular disease and stroke.”
As part of the celebrations, CPRS organised a free physiotherapy camp at the community level on 5th September 2026 at the RWA Office, D-Block, Jamia Nagar, Okhla, New Delhi, in collaboration with the RWA Office, Abul Fazal. The camp aimed to create awareness among community members regarding cardiovascular health, stroke prevention, physical activity and the role of physiotherapy in maintaining health and functional independence. The camp was organised under the guidance of Dr. Moazzam Hussain Khan.
The celebrations also included sports activities on 7th September 2026, promoting physical activity and cardiovascular health among participants. A variety of recreational and sports-based activities were organised to encourage participants to remain physically active and engage in healthy competition. Activities such as badminton, volleyball, relay races, tug-of-war, kho-kho and arm wrestling which provided participants with opportunities to improve their physical fitness, coordination, endurance and teamwork. The sports event was coordinated by Prof. Suraj Kumar and Dr. Md. Shahid Raza.
The programme culminated on 8th September 2026 with a seminar at the University Polytechnic Auditorium, JMI, focusing on the role of physiotherapy and physical activity in the prevention, management and rehabilitation of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. The lecture programme featured distinguished speakers from the fields of medicine and physiotherapy. Dr. Mohsin Wali (Padma Shri), Senior Consultant Physician, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and former Physician to the President of India, addressed the gathering. Dr. Rimsha Siddiqui, Assistant Professor and Operations Head, ISIC Multispecialty Hospital, and Dr. Barnali Bhattacharjee, Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapist and Assistant Dean, Apollo Knowledge, also delivered expert perspectives related to cardiovascular health, physical activity and rehabilitation. The programme was organised under the guidance of Dr. Aqsa Mujaddadi, Assistant Professor, CPRS, JMI, serving as the Programme In-charge.
The overall World Physiotherapy Day celebration events were conducted under the guidance of Prof. Majumi M. Noohu, Director, CPRS, JMI.
Through these initiatives, CPRS, JMI, reinforced the importance of regular physical activity and community awareness in preventing cardiovascular disease, reducing the risk of stroke and supporting recovery and rehabilitation.
