Dr. Tanuj Mathur Represents AMU at ASSOPICON 2025

TNN News : Dr. Tanuj Mathur, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, delivered a Faculty Talk and chaired a scientific session at the annual conference of the Association of Physiologists of India (ASSOPICON), organized by S.N. Medical College, Agra, and held at the Agra Club on March 29, 2025.
Dr. Mathur elaborated on the role of mirror neurons in his presentation on “Mirror Neurons and Autism.” He explained that these specialized brain cells, located primarily in the premotor cortex and inferior parietal lobule, play a crucial role in early child development—particularly in imitation, speech acquisition, and social interaction.
He discussed how dysfunctions in the mirror neuron system may underlie key features of autism spectrum disorder, including difficulties in communication and empathy. He also highlighted the concept of “Broken Mirror Therapy,” an emerging approach aimed at stimulating and retraining these neural circuits as part of autism management. His talk offered valuable insights into the neurophysiological basis of autism and the prospects for innovative therapeutic strategies.
Prof. Mohammad Aslam, Chairman, Department of Physiology, congratulated Dr. Mathur on his achievement and lauded his contribution to the academic and clinical discourse at the national level.
