JMI’s Department of Electrical Engineering organises ‘Industry–Academia Connect–26’ bringing together academia, industry leaders, HR professionals, alumni and more than 350 students

The Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), organized Industry–Academia Connect–26 on 26 September 2026. The programme was conducted at the Committee Room, Faculty of Engineering & Technology (FET), JMI, followed by the student–industry interaction session at the Auditorium, FET, JMI. The event was coordinated by Prof. Majid Jamil, Department of Electrical Engineering, JMI.
The programme was graced by Mr. Sanjay Pandey, Group Captain, Indian Air Force as a Chief Guest, Prof. Moinuddin, Former Director, NIT Jalandhar and Retired Professor, JMI, as the Guest of Honour. Prof. Mohd. Shareef, Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, JMI; Prof. Anwar Shahzad Siddiqui, Head, Department of Electrical Engineering; Prof. Rahela Farooqui, Director, University Placement Cell, JMI; Prof. Sabah Khan, Deputy Director, University Placement Cell, JMI; and Dr. Dinesh Taneja, Director-IT, Ambedkar University, Delhi, were among the distinguished participants.
Representatives from leading organizations also participated in the programme, including Mr. Nishat Ahmad Khan, Senior Engineer, Rockwell Automation; Mr. Sanjay Pandey, Group Captain, Indian Air Force; Mr. Neeraj Chaurasia, Senior Manager, Johnson Lifts; Mr. Suddhasatwa Deb, Senior Manager, Johnson Lifts; Mr. Vikas Saxena, CEO & Co-founder, Caleedo; and Ms. Anamika Rai, Senior Design Engineer, GE Vernova. HR representatives from more than 25 companies, along with prominent alumni of JMI, also participated in the event.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Madeeha, followed by the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an by Mr. Ibraheem. The distinguished guests were felicitated by Prof. Anwar Shahzad Siddiqui and Prof. Mohd. Shareef through the presentation of saplings. The Head of the Department also felicitated the Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Majid Jamil provided an overview of Industry–Academia Connect–26 and explained the two-part structure of the programme. He highlighted the importance of understanding placement prospects, industry expectations and emerging professional opportunities for engineering graduates. He also discussed the challenges and opportunities associated with strengthening industry–academia engagement.
Prof. Mohd. Shareef, Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, emphasized the importance of industry–academia interaction for a developing country. He encouraged faculty members to strengthen their engagement with industry and highlighted the need to identify and address gaps between academic education and industrial requirements.
Prof. Rahela Farooqui, Director, University Placement Cell, JMI, emphasized the importance of establishing long-term associations with industry. She highlighted the need for greater opportunities for internships and industry-oriented projects and stressed the importance of sustained engagement between academic institutions and industry.
Prof. Anwar Shahzad Siddiqui, Head, Department of Electrical Engineering, highlighted the importance of NEP, Outcome-Based Education and NBA attributes. He emphasized the need to bridge the gap between academic learning and industrial requirements and stated that interaction with industry experts can provide students with valuable exposure, inspiration and guidance for their professional careers.
The first part of the programme included a presentation by Mr. Ayan, who provided an overview of the Department of Electrical Engineering through a PowerPoint presentation. This was followed by an open interaction between industry experts and faculty members. The discussion focused on industry expectations, employability, curriculum relevance, internships, projects, practical exposure, skill development, placement opportunities and possible avenues for sustained collaboration.
The second part of the programme was conducted in the Auditorium, FET, JMI, where more than 350 students participated in an interactive session with industry experts and HR representatives. The students engaged in an open discussion and question-and-answer session, seeking guidance on career opportunities, industry expectations, internships, placement preparation, professional skills and career development.
The interaction provided students with an opportunity to gain first-hand insights from industry professionals and understand the competencies and skills required in the contemporary professional environment. The participation of HR representatives from more than 25 companies also provided valuable perspectives on recruitment and employability.
The event highlighted the importance of stronger and sustained collaboration between educational institutions and industry. It also emphasized the role of internships, industry-oriented projects, practical learning, outcome-based education and continuous industry interaction in preparing engineering graduates for professional careers.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Majid Jamil, who expressed gratitude to the Guest of Honour, university officials, industry professionals, HR representatives, alumni, faculty members, students and all those who contributed to the successful organization of Industry–Academia Connect–26.
The event marked a significant step towards strengthening the industry–academia ecosystem at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Jamia Millia Islamia, while creating opportunities for continued interaction, professional development and future collaboration among academia, industry and alumni.
