AMU Professor Delivers Lecture on Breast Cancer Biomarkers at SKIMS Srinagar Conference

TNN NEWS : Prof. Nishat Afroz, Department of Pathology, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, delivered a lecture on “Recent Advances on the Role of Immunohistochemistry and Molecular Genetics in Diagnosing and Predicting Outcome in Breast Cancer” at a conference organized by the Postgraduate Department of Pathology, Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir under the aegis of the Jammu & Kashmir Chapter of the Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists (JK IAPM).
In her address, Prof. Afroz discussed the latest developments in breast cancer biomarkers that aid in diagnosis, prognosis, and prediction of treatment response. She highlighted the significance of identifying genotypical and phenotypical signatures of breast cancer to determine the most effective treatment strategies and to minimize the risks of over- or under-treatment in both primary and metastatic cases. Prof. Afroz also underlined the clinical applicability of biomarker testing on core needle biopsies to guide oncologists in selecting appropriate treatment modalities.
The conference witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members and postgraduate students across Jammu and Kashmir. It also featured distinguished cancer experts from premier institutions such as Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, and St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore, who shared valuable insights on various aspects of cancer diagnosis and management.
