VC and Registrar, JMI meet Hon’ble Union Minister of Minority Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju; discuss initiatives to transform the university into a centre of cutting-edge research and innovation
TNN News : In a notable and landmark meeting held yesterday, the Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), Prof. Mazhar Asif, and Registrar, JMI, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, met with the Hon’ble Union Minister of Minority Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju, to discuss and seek funds for pioneering projects, including the setting up of a Centre for Excellence Building, state-of-the-art laboratories, smart classrooms, and a girls’ hostel, under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) Scheme of the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
Expressing his appreciation of the university’s enterprising and well-conceived roadmap for its future development, the Union Minister, Shru Rijiju extended his full support for a wide range of proposals aimed at catapulting the 105-year-old Central University into a national and global center of learning. Shri Rijiju ji promised to approve JMI’s proposal seeking funding for several major initiatives across teaching, research, infrastructure development, and residential facilities on campus.
Recognizing and appreciating Prof. Asif and Prof. Rizvi’s vision to position JMI as a hub of strategic importance in key areas of emerging technologies and the role that it will play in nation building, the Union Minister agreed to grant approval for funding and setting up of the following major research projects: State-of-the-art laboratory in 5G and beyond; advanced AI and IoT with Machine Learning Integrated-Cloud computing laboratory; research lab for Electric Vehicles; an advanced Digital Gaming Lab; Creative Media and Mobile App Development Lab and a high-end infrastructure and research facilities Advanced XR- Immersive Media Lab. Besides these, the establishment of a Cyber Security Training Academy at the university’s FTK-Centre for Information Technology has also been promised to be approved by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, in addition to the proposal to set up innovative smart classrooms for Jamia schools under the PMJVK scheme.
Furthermore, approval sought for the construction of a 100-bedded hostel for girls and a fully air-conditioned library with a seating capacity of 250 students for the coveted Residential Coaching Academy of JMI has also been accepted.

With these high-end laboratories, JMI will get the much-needed cutting-edge facilities and infrastructure that will position it as a national and international leader in knowledge creation and skill development.”
Prof. Asif and Prof. Rizvi extended their heartfelt gratitude to Shri Rijiju ji for his unwavering support and encouragement to Jamia Millia Islamia and promised to execute these projects in a time-bound manner. Reaffirming the university’s resolve to transform the lives of the minorities, women, and marginalized sections of society, Prof. Asif and Prof. Rizvi reiterated that the Hon’ble Minister’s support will transpose the university into the next level by integrating technology into its classrooms and laboratories, empowering its students and faculty members, and heralding a new future for the university and the society and nation at large.
