TNN News : The month-long summer swimming camp at the iconic Covered Swimming Pool of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) culminated today with a closing ceremony, marked by enthusiasm and active participation. Launched on June 3, the camp drew over 100 young swimmers—including 43 girls—from AMU and more than 30 schools across Aligarh district.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Aligarh, Mr. Sanjeev Suman (IPS), graced the occasion as Chief Guest and awarded certificates to the participants. In his address, he underlined the role of sports in holistic development, stating, “A healthy body is the bedrock of a strong society. Swimming, in particular, nurtures both physical endurance and mental discipline.”
Appreciating the University’s initiative, Mr. Suman said the camp serves as a model for community engagement and youth empowerment. He especially lauded the strong turnout of girls, remarking, “Today’s daughters are achieving excellence in every arena. Their active involvement in swimming promotes confidence, resilience, and fitness.”
The event was presided over by Professor Syed Amjad Ali Rizvi, Secretary, AMU Games Committee, who noted that the camp provided a unique platform for both university students and schoolchildren across the city to engage in structured sports training.
Earlier, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Dar, President of the Swimming Club, welcomed the dignitaries and presented a memento to the Chief Guest. Mr. Mazharul Qamar conducted the programme.
The efforts of senior swimming coach Mr. Mohammad Mansoor, instructors Mr. Suhail Farooqi and Mr. Mohammad Shoaib, and trainer Mrs. Seema were appreciated for their dedication and guidance throughout the camp.
