Faculty of Dentistry students win prestigious ICMR-STS 2024-25 Research Grants

TNN News : The Faculty of Dentistry, Jamia Millia Islamia, is proud to announce that two students from the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programme have been awarded the highly competitive Short Term Studentship (STS) 2024 research grants by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi.

 

The ICMR-STS programme is a national initiative designed to promote research aptitude among MBBS and BDS undergraduates, enabling them to gain first-hand experience in research methodology and techniques under the guidance of experienced faculty mentors. Each selected student receives a stipend of ₹50,000 for conducting their approved research project during the academic year 2024–25.

 

Over the years, the Faculty of Dentistry has consistently nurtured a strong research culture, with its students frequently earning ICMR-STS awards for innovative work spanning dental sciences and interdisciplinary fields.

 

This year’s awardees are:

 

1.      Ms. Fona RaoProject Title: Comparative Evaluation of Two Radiographic Methods of Dental Age Estimation in Children and Adolescents: A Standpoint of Forensic OdontologyMentor: Prof. (Dr) Aman Chowdhry

 

2.      Ms. Zaira HussainProject Title: Comparative Assessment of Temporomandibular Joint and Masticatory Muscles Activity Using Unilateral versus Bilateral Jaw Opener in Patients with TrismusMentor: Prof. (Dr) Deborah Sybil

 

Prof. (Dr) Keya Sircar, Dean, Faculty of Dentistry, has been a strong proponent of undergraduate research initiatives. She congratulated both students for their outstanding success and commended their mentors for guiding them towards excellence.
