Jamia Millia Islamia Hosts Principals from over 50 CBSE-affiliated schools for an exposure visit

TNN News : A two-day exposure visit for over 50 principals from CBSE-affiliated schools from across India was organised by Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) from April 24-25, 2025.
The visit was part of an initiative by the Ministry of Education under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, wherein CBSE collaborates with Higher Education Institutions to promote skill-based education. The aim was to equip school leaders with insights into best practices, innovative resources, and future collaboration opportunities, fostering the integration of skill education into school curricula.
The program commenced with an inaugural session presenting the rich legacy, faculties, departments, centers, and diverse programs being offered by Jamia Millia Islamia. Under the leadership of Prof. Mazhar Asif,Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, JMI and Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar,JMI, the exposure sessions were meticulously planned, providing participants with a comprehensive overview of the university’s initiatives in skill development.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Mohd. Faijullah Khan, Associate Professor, along with the esteemed principals of Jamia Schools — Dr. Mohd. Arshad Khan, Ms. Shagufta, Ms. Anjum, Ms. Nusrat, Ms. Ruksana, and Mr. Qutubuddin.
Over the two-days, the participants explored several key skills being imparted by the university and visited vocational education centers at JMI, including, Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Centre for Distance and Online Education, Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF), AJK Mass Communication and Research Centre, University Library, Centre for Coaching and Career Planning, Faculty of Life Sciences, Faculty of Education and Jamia Schools.
Detailed presentations showcasing the skills-based programs offered at each centre, along with facility tours and interactive sessions with esteemed Directors and faculty members made the visits uniquely insightful and useful.
In a special interaction session, Prof. Mazhar Asif, Honorable Vice Chancellor JMI ,emphasized the importance of skill development, reiterating the goal of ensuring “One Hunar (Skill) for Every Student” before they complete their Senior Secondary education.
Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar JMI, highlighted the critical role of the mother tongue (regional/local language) in imparting education, particularly, in the domain of skill development.
Dr. Biswajit Saha, Director of Training and Skill Education, CBSE, also interacted with the participants. He underlined the significance of such exposure visits and expressed satisfaction with the arrangements made by the university administration.
CBSE conveyed its heartfelt thanks to the coordinator Dr. Mohd. Faijullah Khan and the entire Jamia Millia Islamia administration for their excellent and smooth collaboration and proactive support. In a formal note of appreciation, CBSE stated, “This exposure visit will certainly help school leaders to further collaborate with Higher Education Institutions to integrate skill education into mainstream education, and adopt advanced processes and techniques to upgrade the skills and proficiency of the young generation.”
Looking ahead, both CBSE and Jamia Millia Islamia expressed a keen interest in fostering further collaborations and networking initiatives to build a future-ready education system.
