JMI PhD Scholar Dr Shaban Ahmad Joins Prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark
TNN News : Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) proudly announces that Dr Shaban Ahmad, PhD graduate under the supervision of Dr Khalid Raza, Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science, has been selected as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The position offers an annual salary of 5,93,000 DKK (≈ ₹ 77 lakh), inclusive of full healthcare, and generous funding for conferences and collaborative research. This prestigious international placement is a significant testament to JMI’s growing global research footprint. In parallel, he has also been selected as a Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, and currently holds memberships in multiple international professional societies.
Prof Mazhar Asif, Vice Chancellor of JMI, congratulated him, stating, “Dr. Ahmad’s selection to one of Europe’s most esteemed universities reflects the world-class research culture nurtured at JMI. We are confident he will continue to represent the institution with distinction and scholarly excellence.” Prof Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar of JMI, also congratulated Dr. Ahmad and recently honoured him with the ‘Achiever of the Year Award’ during a felicitation ceremony at MMA Jauhar Hall of Boys’ Residence.
During his doctoral studies, Dr Ahmad made noteworthy contributions to AI-driven drug discovery, bioinformatics, and computational pharmacology, with a focused application in lung cancer therapeutics. He has been instrumental in designing deep learning-based frameworks for drug repurposing in lung cancer, with a novel focus on multi-protein targeting strategies to overcome resistance—a critical challenge in contemporary oncology research. His research, which led to identifying multitargeted inhibitors against lung cancer and other crucial proteins, has been published in several high-impact journals. His academic portfolio is distinguished by a granted patent, along with over 40 peer-reviewed research articles (majority in Q1/Q2 journals).
At the University of Copenhagen, Dr Ahmad will work on AI-driven data strategies to prevent vector-borne viral infections in livestock while contributing to structure-informed drug optimisation against priority pathogens. His research aligns with the EU’s One Health framework, bridging human, animal, and environmental health through data-centric biomedical innovation.
Dr. Ahmad expressed heartfelt gratitude to his PhD mentor, Dr Raza, and the faculty members of the Department of Computer Science for their continuous support. He also acknowledged the vital role of national research initiatives and the computational infrastructure at JMI that enabled his research journey and international recognition. This achievement exemplifies JMI’s sustained commitment to producing globally competent researchers and cements its status as a premier institution for cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research.
