Jamia Hamdard Celebrated Academic Milestone with Over 7,200 Students Awarded Degrees at 15th Convocation 2026 held at Vigyan Bhawan

TNN News : Jamia Hamdard (A Government Aided Deemed to be University) successfully hosted its 15th Convocation Ceremony on 16 April 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, marking a significant academic milestone as thousands of students were awarded degrees across diverse disciplines.

The ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering of dignitaries, including Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of Legislative Councils (MLCs), Vice Chancellors, senior bureaucrats, eminent academicians, scientists, business leaders, and diplomats from various countries, along with members of the Executive Council and Academic Council of the university.

According to Controller of Examinations Mr. Syed Saud Akhtar, a total of 7,202 students were conferred Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Ph.D. degrees. Additionally, 109 postgraduate students from the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) also graduated. Recognizing academic excellence, the university awarded 250 gold medals to meritorious students for their exemplary performance in academics.

 In a special honour, Dr. K. P. Hussain was conferred Doctor of Sciences (Honoris Causa) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Medicine, Health Care Innovation, and Philanthropy.

The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Hammad Ahmed, Hon’ble Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard.

In his convocation address, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam highlighted the university’s expanding academic and research footprint, along with its consistent performance in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025. Jamia Hamdard secured the 1st Rank in Pharmacy, reaffirming its leadership in pharmaceutical education at the national; level. It also ranked 40th in the Medical category, 87th in Management, 47th among Universities, and 74th Overall Category, reflecting steady multidisciplinary growth. In the QS World Subject Ranking, the Pharmacy and Pharmacology of Jamia Hamdard has been Ranked 59th in the world for 2026.

The Vice Chancellor also highlighted that the faculty members have secured major research grants from government funding agencies including DST, ICMR, ANRF, CSIR, DBT, CCRUM, CCRAS, UGC, DRDO, BIRAC, and AICTE as well as from the industry partners including SUN Pharma, Dabur Research Foundation, Jubilant Life Sciences, AIMIL Pharmaceuticals, and International Bodies strengthening innovation and scholarly output. A state-of-the-art 5G Use Case Laboratory has been established at the School of Engineering Sciences & Technology to boost advanced research capabilities. The university is also focusing on infrastructure modernization, digital transformation, and implementing the National Education Policy 2020 to align with national higher education reformsIn recent months, the institution has hosted several national and international conferences covering sustainability, digital transformation, arbitration, ethical research, and foreign policy.

The Registrar, Col Tahir Mustafa, stated that the convocation brought together students, academicians, and distinguished guests, celebrating both academic excellence and the institution’s continued progress. He noted that the event reaffirmed the university’s commitment to quality education, research innovation, and nation-building, expressing confidence that the graduating students will make meaningful contributions across diverse sectors.

The convocation proceedings concluded with the National Anthem.
