AMU’s Mechanical Engineering Department Secures Prestigious ASHRAE-USA Project Grant

TNN News : The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Z.H. College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University, has secured a significant project grant worth USD 4,993 from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), USA, for the academic session 2025–26.
The project, titled “Design and Development of Split Air Conditioning Test Rig for the Analysis of Different Psychrometric Processes as a Training and Demonstration Unit,” has been awarded under ASHRAE’s Undergraduate Program Equipment Grant initiative. The project is led by Dr.TalivHussain and Dr. Mohammad Asif, faculty members and investigators, who also serve as advisors to the ASHRAE-AMU student branch in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
According to the investigators, the primary objective of the project is to design a custom-built test setup that facilitates the study and analysis of various psychrometric processes in a controlled environment. These processes include sensible and latent cooling, heating, dehumidification, and humidification—key components in understanding HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems.
“This initiative will serve as a hands-on training and demonstration unit for students, offering them valuable exposure to real-world HVAC applications and technologies,” said Dr.Taliv Hussain.
“We aim to gradually expand our end-to-end solutions for HVAC systems by incorporating the latest advancements and research in the field. This approach will allow for continuous improvement in efficiency and system performance,” added Dr Mohammad Asif.
The department has established a strong track record with ASHRAE, having a total of ten projects amounting to USD 49,697 (approximately INR 42,65,717) awarded to the department by ASHRAE-USA so far.
