Three-Day Literary and Cultural Fest “Riwayat” Concludes at Sir Syed Hall South, AMU

TNN News : The three-day literary and cultural fest “Riwayat” concluded at Sir Syed Hall South, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), celebrating the creative, literary, and artistic talents of students while reflecting the university’s rich cultural traditions.
At the closing ceremony, Dr. Abdul Rauf, Provost of Sir Syed Hall South, highlighted the significance of preserving cultural values. He noted that AMU has long been admired for its vibrant cultural traditions, and students carry the responsibility of nurturing this legacy. He described the fest not merely as an event, but as a living expression of AMU’s shared heritage.
Prof. Vibha Sharma from the Department of English and Member in Charge, Public Relations Office, attended the event as the chief guest, while Prof. Aasim Zafar, Officer on Special Duty (Development) from the Department of Computer Science, was the guest of honour.
Commending the diverse range of activities, Prof. Vibha Sharma encouraged students to value literature and remain connected with books. She reminded them that knowledge and tradition go hand in hand and that literature serves as a bridge between cultures and generations—whether it is Shakespeare’s poetry, Premchand’s stories, or timeless verses in the form of University Tarana.
Prof. Aasim Zafar praised the efforts and enthusiasm of the students, remarking that AMU is deeply rooted in values of humanity, literature, and ethics. He said that students at the university are not just gaining academic knowledge but are also upholding a longstanding cultural ethos.
The ceremony witnessed lively participation from students of Sir Syed Hall South and other residential halls. Across the three days, sixteen competitions were held, including essay writing, Quran recitation (Qira’at), Naat recitation, painting, drawing, poster-making, calligraphy, self-composed poetry, and quizzes. Over 300 students participated in the fest, with the essay writing contest drawing the highest number of entries. Winners in each category were awarded prizes.
Dr. Wasif Raza, Secretary of the Literary and Cultural Fest, presented a comprehensive report summarizing student participation and activities. Mr. Samiullah conducted the proceedings of the closing ceremony, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Mohammad Kaif Farshori, Assistant Professor in the Department of Urdu and Warden-in-Charge of the fest.
