J.N. Medical College at AMU Observes World Hepatitis Day with Awareness Seminar and Health Camp

TNN News : The Department of Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with the National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme (NVHCP), organized a seminar and health camp to mark World Hepatitis Day on July 28.
Held under the theme “Let’s break it down,”under the guidance of Prof. Mohd. Aslam, Chairman, Department of Medicine, the event aimed to promote awareness regarding hepatitis prevention, diagnosis, and treatment among healthcare professionals and the wider community.
Dr Devada Ambalal, Department of Medicine gave a lecture on viral hepatitis, followed by a Hepatitis Camp at the Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) Centre, which offered screening and consultation services.
Prof Mohd. Habib Raza, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Principal JNMC; Prof Syed Amjad Ali Rizvi, Medical Superintendent; and Prof. Wasif M Khan Assistant Medical Superintendent, emphasized the importance of hepatitis awareness and community engagement in public health efforts.
Dr Husaini S. Haider Mehdi, Nodal Officer of the ART Centre, introduced the theme of the event and outlined the free hepatitis-related services offered at OPD 23, including viral load testing and medication access.
Prof Anjum Parvez incharge gastroenterology unit was actively involved in all the events.
The seminar also included presentations by Dr Mohd. Saquib Alam, who spoke on general hepatitis awareness, and Dr Mohd. Salman, who discussed available treatment options for viral hepatitis.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Shafquat Tasneem. The event reflected the college’s continued commitment to promoting public health education and accessible care.
