Orientation Program Held for First-Year Diploma Students at AMU Boys’ Polytechnic

TNN News : The University Polytechnic (Boys), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized a comprehensive Orientation Programme for newly admitted first-semester Diploma in Engineering students, aimed at facilitating their smooth transition into academic and campus life.
The programme was inaugurated in the presence of key university officials, including Prof. Wasim Ali, Proctor, who emphasized the importance of anti-ragging measures and maintaining a safe, inclusive campus environment. Prof. Rafiuddin, Dean of Students’ Welfare, highlighted the student support systems and welfare initiatives at AMU. Prof. Asfar Ali Khan (Director, School Education, AMU) and Prof. Nesar Ahmad, Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, also addressed the gathering and inspired the students with their insights.
Prof. Mujib Ahmad Ansari, Principal, University Polytechnic, delivered the welcome address and gave a detailed overview of the Polytechnic’s legacy and achievements. Prof. Mohammad Asif, Provost, R.M. Hall, briefed students on hostel facilities and the University’s efforts in ensuring a comfortable residential environment. Prof. Athar Ansari, Department of Community Medicine and Provost, Hadi Hasan Hall, stressed the importance of health, hygiene, and lifestyle management for student well-being.
Heads and section in-charges of various departments, including Applied Sciences & Humanities, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Leather & Footwear Technology, and Mechanical Engineering introduced their respective academic areas and shared curricular insights.
Dr Mohd Mohsin Khan, NSS Programme Coordinator, and Mr Mohd Danish, Caretaking Officer, NCC, highlighted the role of social service, discipline, and nation-building. Dr Arshad Husain, Superintendent of Examinations, elaborated on the examination system, while Dr. Wasifullah Khan, Assistant Chief Tabulator, explained the result processing and evaluation mechanism. Dr Faisal Khan, Training and Placement Officer, spoke about career opportunities and placement prospects for Polytechnic students.
Dr Kaleem Afrough Zaidi, In-charge, Poly Society, outlined the scope of co-curricular and cultural activities, and Major Mohd. Israil, Honorary Librarian, introduced the library resources and services.
The orientation programme also included visits to the Polytechnic workshop, library, and departmental laboratories, giving students firsthand exposure to academic infrastructure and practical learning facilities.
Dr Arshad Husain delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of faculty, organizing committee members, student volunteers, and technical staff. The sessions were conducted by Dr Sana Fatma, Assistant Professor.
